Jorge Bocobo (1886-1965)
Jorge Bocobo was a "pensionado" -
a government-sponsored student traveling from the Philippines to the United
States. Bocobo was chosen as part of a special group of 100 privileged
elite young men to attend four years of academic training in the United
States. At
the age of 17, Bocobo sailed on the Rochilla Maru and attended school in
Santa Barbara, California and Puss High School in San Diego before going
to Indiana University, where he studied law. He graduated and returned
to the Philippines in 1907.
