Setting Sail

After 2 months of building a boat, you, Marissa, Jordan and you bid goodbye to Boatmaster Florentino Gallana. You all set sail for Bukidnon, known as the Grand Canyon of the Philippines in Northern Mindanao to attend an exciting indigenous festival called Kaamulan Festival, which means “social gathering.” As you are traveling out at sea, you can imagine what the journey was like for the ten Datus or chiefs and their families who traveled to the Philippines in 1250 A.D to seek freedom and a new way of life. These early Malays set sail on balangays (boats) or barangays, mobile homes which housed a functioning community of people.
